The Christmas season kicks off here in Historic Chatham!

Chatham First meeting and celebrate the historical town of "Competition"
which was on this spot from 1800-1850
Evening events will
include:

Book Review of "The History and Development of Competition"
written by Langhorne Jones, Sr. and reviewed by Langhorne Jones, Jr.
· "Why
Competition" a dramatization of the arguments that led to the
naming of the town of Competition by Gayle Carden Hudert
·
Exhibit highlighting the town of Competition with artifacts, maps and photos
·
Dulcimer concert
·
Wine, punch, & light fare reception
The adult public is invited to attend.

Friday,
December 5th
Friday
night is the evening of our traditional Lantern
Lighting Celebration, Christmas Caroling Festival, and Yule Log Celebration.
Make sure to sample the plentiful and festive food, drinks and seasonal cheer! Chatham Main Street Businesses
will be open with various specials.
“Soundcheck,” a popular teen "open mic" coffee-house experience, will round
out the evening.

Saturday,
December 6th
Saturday’s events will thrill young and old. Vendors and crafters will set up their tents along Main Street and
inside the Chatham Community Center starting at 9 AM. The return of last year’s extremely popular Chatham Christmas
Parade, sponsored by the Chatham Volunteer Fire Department, will begin at 11 AM
along Main Street. Of Course, Santa and Mrs. Claus will lead in the
festivities. Following the parade, visitors will gather again at the Chatham Community Center at 1 PM for the
third Christmas concert featuring Pittsylvania County’s own Kinney Rorrer with
the New North Carolina Ramblers performing their “Old Time Music”. This concert, which is free and open to the
public, is always a “standing room only” event.
To close the weekend on Saturday at 4
PM, all are invited to the "Chatham Schola Cantorum" at Emmanuel Episcopal
Church. Dr. David Smith, Rector of
Emmanuel Episcopal Church, and Mr. Kevin Zakresky, Music Director at Chatham
Hall, along with many others, will offer a special medieval Christmas Mass in
Latin with Gregorian Chants.
